Ab in die Ecke (Off into the corner)

On 6 October 2015, in the context of the Popcore festival in Ghent, the performance Ab in die Ecke (Off into the corner) took place at the artist collective 019. It followed a concept by Felix Kindermann. A musician stood in each of the four corners of the former industrial hall. Across the distance they were to improvise with each other, without individually being able to hear the whole sound (there was no shared mixing that would have been played to each one of them over monitors). The line-up for this particular evening was: Robin Schaeverbeke (drums), Peter Bultink (electronic guitar), Lutz Boddenberg (electronic bass), with me on vocals, and everyone amplified over a loudspeaker. A selection of song lyrics served as the basis for the text, which Hana Miletic had actually found in Brussels — someone had lost his notebook with the lyrics, wjthout any name and address. She made it available under the title Little Blues Booklet, and in this way the lost lyrics continued to echo forth into the art space of the 019 collective…

The performance was documented in the catalogue Sabotage And Complicity, published by Valentijn Goethals and Tomas Lootens with Art Paper Editions in Ghent (2016). Photos: Felix Kindermann
